Deanan Gourmet Popcorn to expand operations In Wylie

Wylie, Texas - October 25, 2017 - The Wylie Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) is proud to announce that Deanan Gourmet Popcorn plans to add 10,140 SF and eight new jobs at their current facility in Wylie, TX. The overall, $2MM project will add eight (8) full-time employees, over $500,000 in new equipment and expand their current headquarters here in Wylie, Texas.  They plan to start construction within the first quarter of 2018 with an estimated completion date in the fourth quarter of 2018.

In 2011, Deanan purchased the original property located at 216 Windco Circle and moved into their new 5,000 SF facility.  Due to tremendous demand, they doubled the size of the facility in 2014 adding 5,437 SF of capacity to their existing building. Once again, Deanan is expanding operations to meet the growing demand in North Texas. On October 25, 2017, the WEDC Board of Directors approved a performance agreement to assist with the second expansion of their facility.  "Their rapid growth and the overall success has been fun to watch," said WEDC Board President Marvin Fuller. "We are grateful that Deanan choose to expand their operations here in Wylie."

"Deanan had options for expanding their facility and choose Wylie as their headquarters,” said WEDC executive director Sam Satterwhite. "The quality of both their products and business management ensure that they will thrive here in Wylie for years to come.”

About Deanan Gourmet Popcorn

The Early Years

Dean and Nanella Alexander

When Lt. Col. Dean Alexander retired from the United States Air Force in 1979, he and his wife Nanella purchased a gourmet popcorn franchise in a San Antonio, Texas shopping mall. They chose the company name by combining their own names (Dean + Nan = Deanan). Over the next several years, they bought and sold several retail locations. This allowed them to work together and involve the three of their five children still living at home.

Opportunity Kept Popping Up

Over the next several years they received a number of awards, including the National Sales Award for 1980. Dean pursued local businesses and developed a large customer base, which purchased popcorn tins for clients and associates. Nan's artistic touches in personalizing canisters provided unique designs available only through their store. Additional accounts came from pharmaceutical companies using the canisters as gifts for their customers.

Transition

In 1987, a new program was developed on a trial basis - fundraising. This program grew from one small country school selling our products in San Antonio, Texas, to over 1,000 customers statewide. The program was so successful that after several years the retail stores were sold, allowing the company to focus all of its attention on the fundraising and business gift programs.

Deanan Today

Today, Deanan is a nationwide provider of gourmet popcorn for fundraising, as well as a provider of great-tasting gifts.

Still family-owned and family-operated, Deanan provides the same personal service, attention to detail, and great-tasting products that were the cornerstones of Dean and Nanella's little popcorn operation over 39 years ago. The main difference is that now Deanan gourmet popcorn is well-known and available nationwide, through the education network and with the help of the Internet!
