Educational Opportunities in Wylie

Wylie Independent School District

Wylie Independent School District covers 41 square miles and serves Wylie families and students from the surrounding communities of Sachse, Murphy, Lucas, Lavon and St. Paul. Wylie ISD has twenty campuses, including 6A Wylie High School and 5A Wylie East High School, one alternative high school, three junior high schools (grades seven and eight), three intermediate schools (grades five and six) and eleven elementary campuses (pre-K through grade four).

Wylie students consistently score above state and national averages on the SAT and ACT. In addition to its outstanding academic programs, Wylie ISD places a focus on character education beginning in elementary school. Its innovative “Wylie Way” program emphasizes mentor-student relationships, student strengths and interests, planning for the future, and core ethical values.

The district offers a wide range of programs, including culinary arts and television production. Technology is embraced in the classroom and as a communications tool for parents.

Unique support is provided by the Birmingham Land Trust, F.O. Birmingham Memorial Land Trust, and the Miss Pearl Scholarship Fund, all of which were established to enhance and enrich the educational lives of Wylie ISD students.  Since 1940, over $13 million in funding from the three trusts have been provided for the benefit of the WISD for the construction of facilities, vocational training for students entering the workforce following graduation, technology upgrades training for career and technology programs, and college scholarships for graduating seniors.

Wylie ISD supports caring teachers and topnotch administrators within an environment under which parents can pick up the phone and speak directly to the superintendent about their child or the Friday night football game.  Even with a student population in excess of 16,000, the District prides itself in providing individualized service geared toward providing the best opportunity for each and every child to succeed.
