Wylie EDC Celebrates Manufacturing Day 2025
Wylie, Texas – September 24, 2025 – The Wylie Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), in partnership with community stakeholders, is proud to celebrate Manufacturing Day 2025 with a month-long slate of programs and events. The initiative highlights the essential role manufacturing plays in sustaining a strong economy while also creating opportunities for students to engage directly with local employers and explore career paths in this dynamic sector. This year, 250 students will take part in facility tours at 16 Wylie-based companies, gaining firsthand exposure to nine distinct technical skill areas.
The celebration officially began on September 23rd with a Manufacturer’s Appreciation Reception held prior to the City Council meeting. Following the reception, Mayor Matthew Porter led a proclamation ceremony honoring the manufacturing community. Mayor Porter also invited local manufacturers, educators, civic partners, and city staff to introduce themselves and the organizations they represent.
Beginning October 2nd, Wylie ISD students enrolled in related CTE programs will visit several local companies, including Avanti Windows & Doors, Barco Pump, Cates Control Systems, CNC Innovations, EXCO Extrusion Dies, Lone Star Circuits, SAF Holland USA, Sanden International USA, Savage Precision Fabrication, and Tower Extrusion. Additional tours scheduled later in the month will spotlight businesses in compounding pharmacy, dental device production, construction, and architectural design, including Quality Care Pharmacy, Sands Rx Pharmacy, Helm Dental Laboratory, and more.
Since its inception in Wylie, Texas in 2018, MFG Day activities have provided more than 1,300 students with employer connections in our community, in more than 340 individual manufacturing facility tours. Today, 71 manufacturing businesses call Wylie home, generating more than $562 million in annual sales and providing more than 1,700 manufacturing jobs to local citizens.
The Manufacturing Institute projects that by 2033, U.S. manufacturers will need to fill nearly 3.8 million jobs. With technical and automation skills becoming increasingly vital to modern production, Wylie’s education-to-career pipeline offers students a strong advantage.
“Wylie’s Manufacturing Day program is part of a nationwide effort led by the Manufacturing Institute to highlight the outstanding career opportunities available in the manufacturing industry,” commented Jason Greiner, Executive Director of Wylie EDC. “What makes our local program special is the tremendous support we receive from Wylie ISD, Collin College, and Wylie’s manufacturers, who open their doors to students and give them an inside look at what it takes to succeed in this field. Their willingness to invest time and resources into inspiring the next generation speaks volumes about the pride they have in their work and their commitment to our community,” he added.
MFG Day is an initiative of The Manufacturing Institute, with the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association as a founding partner. The Institute grows and supports the manufacturing industry’s skilled workers for the advancement of modern manufacturing. The Institute’s diverse initiatives support women, veterans, students and workers through skills training programs, community building and supporting the advancement of their career in manufacturing. As the workforce development and education partner of the National Association of Manufacturers, the Institute is a trusted adviser to manufacturers, equipping them with resources necessary to solve the industry’s toughest challenges.
