Last night at the Wylie City Council meeting, Mayor Matthew Porter issued a Proclamation confirming the official observance of May 9-15 as Economic Development Week in Wylie, Texas. This week is designated to recognize and celebrate the benefits of positive economic development and explain the role that Economic Development plays in supporting and strengthening the business community. Specifically, policies and programs directed at improving the business climate through workforce development programs, business finance, marketing/attraction, neighborhood development, business retention and expansion, technology transfer, real estate development and revitalization, among others.

“It’s no accident that Small Business Week and Economic Development Week go hand-in-hand,” stated Jason Greiner, Executive Director of the Wylie Economic Development Corporation.  “Small Businesses form the backbone of our local economy and we acknowledge the entrepreneurial spirit it takes to succeed. Today we celebrate our small businesses and our local partners Collin College, Wylie ISD, Wylie Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Wylie. Together, we help to build awareness for local programs that help create talent pipelines for in-demand jobs, advance career development opportunities, and improve the local quality of life of our community."

Economic Development Week was created by the Internation Economic Development Council (IEDC) in 2016.
