Wylie, Texas – September 1, 2023. The Wylie Economic Development Corporation (Wylie EDC) is pleased to announce the advancement to the next phase of its comprehensive redevelopment and revitalization initiative. This crucial phase will focus on the demolition of remaining properties, extensive infrastructure enhancements, and final assemblage activities, setting the stage for shovel-ready projects.
Jason Greiner, Executive Director of Wylie EDC, stated, "This phase marks a pivotal continuation of our strategic efforts to address properties that present significant redevelopment challenges beyond the scope of typical free-market processes. The preparation of these sites is a meticulous process, often spanning several years and addressing complex environmental issues regulated by state laws. Our goal is to overcome substantial obstacles to redevelopment, transforming these sites into prime locations that attract businesses offering quality jobs and essential services to our community."
In recent months, the Wylie EDC has informed tenants in affected properties and actively assisting the businesses in securing new locations within the community. This announcement follows comprehensive communications with all tenants, ensuring they were informed prior to public disclosure of the project’s next steps.
Since its inception, the Wylie EDC has dedicated itself to bolstering the local business environment by engaging with existing companies on workforce development, business retention/expansion, and even strategic relocations of key employers along Wylie’s primary thoroughfares. These efforts have not only enabled local manufacturers like Extruders, Mann Made, and Exco Texas (formerly BE&H Extrusion) to expand into new facilities in local business parks, but they have also enriched the community by attracting a diverse mix of medical, retail, commercial, office, and professional services. These manufacturers were previously located along the KCS railroad track adjacent to Highway 78. Their relocations have been part of extensive multi-year projects that paved the way for the redevelopment in the area. The revitalization efforts led to the development of Shafer Plaza, Dairy Queen, Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Whataburger, Schlotzsky’s, Fish N’ Tails, Lawyers Title, Inwood National Bank, and various other commercial entities, significantly enhancing the corridor's appeal and functionality.
The Wylie Economic Development Corporation (Wylie EDC) is funded through a citywide half-cent sales tax that is collected from over 240,000 consumers in our retail trade area. The Wylie EDC facilitates corporate relocations, local expansions of existing businesses, retail/commercial development and revitalization projects that lead to the creation of new jobs and the generation of additional tax revenue for the community.
